BYZANTINE LEAD BULLA WITH VIRGIN MARY AND CHILD. Ca. AD 600 - 800. A lead bulla with the frontal bust of the Mother of God, wearing a chiton and maphorion, holding before her the Christ Child. Sigla to left and right: 'MP OV'. Encircled by a legend within a double beaded border. The reverse bears a five-line inscription framed by a raised border. For similar see: The British Museum, Museum number B.6847. Size: 25mm x 24mm; Weight: 16g Provenance: From an old British collection formed in the 1990s; previously acquired in Holland.
