Description

BYZANTINE GOLD PENDANT WITH RED GARNET CABOCHON, TURQUOISE AND DANGLES. Ca. AD 600. A gold pendant of arched form, centred by a circular red garnet cabochon in a high-collared collet set beneath a semi-circular turquoise plaque and flanked by two small applied bosses. The raised rim features a round suspension ring at the apex and lateral looped attachments at the shoulders. The lower edge bears four short chain pendants, each terminating in a dark green stone bead. The reverse is flat and plain. Size: 25mm x 19mm; Weight: 2.5g Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Munich, Germany in the 1990s.
