MATCHED PAIR OF BYZANTINE BRONZE OPENWORK EARRINGS WITH HOLY DOVES. Ca. AD 600 - 800. A matched pair of bronze hoop earrings with crescent-shaped plaques, each with a central cross formed of domed bosses, flanked by doves. The ground is finely stippled, and the outer arc features a beaded border with small suspension rings for pendants. Bulbous terminals link the hoops to the plaques. Size: 65-65mm x 50-53mm; Weight: 25g Provenance: Private UK collection; From an old Oxford collection formed in the 1980s.
