VIKING BRONZE AMULET WITH RAVEN HEADS. Ca. AD 800 - 1100. An oval bronze amulet depicting two stylised birds facing one another, each with a hooked beak and circular eye. Below them is a central triangle enclosing a raised dot, with two curved arms extending from its sides, each terminating in a rounded boss. The entire composition is bordered by a series of concentric grooves. For similar see: The British Museum, Museum number 1921,1101.251. Size: 35mm x 26mm; Weight: 8g Provenance: London collection; Ex. Mayfair collection, acquired from an Ancient Art gallery; formerly acquired on the London art market pre-2000.
