VIKING AGE BRONZE STAR MACE HEAD. Ca. AD 800 - 1200. A cast bronze star mace head with a short cylindrical socket. Beaded ribs arranged in a cruciform pattern on each face meet at small hemispherical bosses, with the triangular fields between them rising to pyramidal points. Size: 65mm x 55mm; Weight: 180g Provenance: Private London collection.; previously with a London gallery; formerly acquired in France between 2000 - 2005, ex. Alan Kotlar collection, formed in Paris in the 1970s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
