EGYPTIAN PAINTED WOODEN SARCOPHAGUS MASK.
Late Period to Ptolemaic Period, Ca. 664 - 30 BC. A wooden mask from a sarcophagus with a rounded face, short nose, and narrow, slightly curved lips. The eyes are almond-shaped and defined with black cosmetic lines extending towards the temples. The brows are thin and arched, painted in black. The flat backside features attachment pegs for securing the mask to the sarcophagus. For similar see: Christie's, Live Auction 7207, Antiquities, Lot 59. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
