EGYPTIAN WOODEN HEADREST. Old Kingdom, 6th Dynasty, Ca. 2345 - _2181 BC. A wooden headrest with a crescent-shaped upper support curving upward at both ends to cradle the head. The support is connected to a tall, fluted shaft with evenly spaced vertical grooves and flares gently towards a flat, rectangular base. Size: 230mm x 190mm; Weight: 725g Provenance: Prince collection, 1990s-2014; Ex. Harmakhis (Jaques Billen) 28 April 2003. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
