EGYPTIAN BICHROME GLAZED COMPOSITION ROYAL TILE FRAGMENTS.
New Kingdom, 19th Dynasty, Ca. 1200 BC
A pair of bichrome glazed composition royal tile fragments. Each with mauve hieroglyphs inlaid on a white ground, the larger fragment in the form of a cartouche of 'Seti II'; the smaller rectangular section with part of the cartouche of Seti II, showing his prenomen, 'Userkheperure Meryamun'. Reviewed by Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition. Size: 25-50mm x 40-40mm; Weight: 65g Provenance: Prince collection, 1990s-2014; Ex. Bonhams, Antiquities, 28 October 2009, sale 16853, lot 59; Ex.Property from an American deceased estate, acquired between 1970 and 1989. Originally from a palace, probably in the delta capital of Piramessu. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
