LARGE EGYPTIAN FAIENCE TAWERET.
Late Period, Ca. 664 - 332 BC.
A pale turquoise faience figure of Taweret standing on a small rectangular base. She is depicted with the body of a pregnant hippopotamus, with a rounded belly and pendant breasts. The arms are held along the sides with the hands resting on the abdomen. The head shows a broad snout, an open mouth, and small, rounded ears. A striated wig falls over the shoulders and back, and a pierced lug projects at the back for suspension.
