LARGE EGYPTIAN FAIENCE BES AMULET.
Late Period, Ca. 664 - 332 BC.
A faience amulet of the dwarf-god Bes. The squatting figure stands against a tall dorsal pillar on an integral rectangular plinth, with a flat-topped headdress, prominent brows, a drooping moustache and a pendant beard. The forearms are brought forward to grasp a circular object at the abdomen. The legs are flexed with the knees apart and the large feet planted on the base. A lateral perforation pierces the upper section of the pillar for suspension.
