EGYPTIAN FAIENCE TAWERET AMULET.
Late Period, Ca. 664 - 332 BC.
A turquoise-blue faience amulet of Taweret standing upright on a small rectangular base. She has the head of a hippopotamus and a human-shaped body with a pregnant belly and pendulous breasts, the arms held along the sides and the legs terminating in leonine paws. A ridged crocodile tail runs down the back.

Provenance: Property of a London gallery; previously in a collection of a North London gentleman; formerly in a collection of Mrs B. Ellison, a deceased former member of the Egyptian Exploration Fund, bought from the 1940s, Cairo and London.
