EGYPTIAN FAIENCE TAWERET AMULET.
Third Intermediate Period, Ca. 1069 - 664 BC.
A bright blue-green faience amulet of the goddess Taweret standing on a small rectangular base. The figure has a hippopotamus head with a protruding snout, and a human-shaped, pregnant body with pendulous breasts. A ridged crocodile tail runs down the back. A suspension hole is set above the head.

Provenance: Property of a London gallery; previously in a collection of a North London gentleman; formerly in a collection of Mrs B. Ellison, a deceased former member of the Egyptian Exploration Fund, bought from the 1940s, Cairo and London.
