APULIAN BELL KRATER WITH ELEGANT OFFERING SCENE BY THE BARI PAINTER 5981.
Ca. 350 - 325 BC.
A red-figure krater standing on a flaring foot with a broad bell-shaped body rising to a wide mouth and an everted rim. A continuous band of laurel leaves runs beneath the rim, while each handle is flanked by scrolling palmettes extending down the sides. Side A depicts three draped female figures in added white and ochre, holding a mirror, fans, situlae, a vegetal branch and a wreath, arranged around a central thymiaterion. Side B shows three draped youths, each wrapped in a himation, with additional motifs suspended in the background. A wave band encircles the vessel below the main panels.
