Description
ATTIC RED-FIGURE KYLIX.
Attributed to the Painter of Brussels R 330, Ca. 450 - 425 BC.
A terracotta red-figure kylix with a wide shallow bowl on a tall concave stem and a flaring foot, the horizontal handles set low on the wall. Inside, a circular tondo is framed by a meander key broken by crosses, and the scene shows a traveller in chlamys and petasos with a spear taking leave of a draped young woman. On the exterior, each side shows three standing figures with the departing youth at the centre, while dense palmette and scroll tendrils fill the spaces beneath the handles.
