LATE ATTIC COLUMN KRATER WITH MAENAD AND SATYRS.
Ca. 450 - 400 BC. A large red-figure column krater with a Dionysiac scene of satyrs and a maenad. The vessel has a broad everted rim encircled by a double dotted band, a short neck with a tongue frieze, and columnar twin handles rising to rectangular plates decorated with palmette motifs. The ovoid body tapers to a moulded foot above a zone of radiating rays. The main side shows a draped maenad between two satyrs in dynamic, dancing poses, framed by dotted vertical panels. The reverse depicts three himation-clad youths engaged in conversation.
