LARGE HELLENISTIC GOLD ARCHITECTURAL RING WITH AMETHYST CABOCHON AND A SMALL GARNET. Ca. 200 - 100 BC. A gold architectural ring with a high stepped hexagonal bezel set with a large amethyst cabochon. The solid navicella-shaped hoop is centred beneath with a small oval garnet cabochon and rises to paired architectural uprights linked to the bezel by hinged elements secured with transverse pegs. Size: D:15.49mm / US: 4 3/4 / UK: J; Weight: 22.1g Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Switzerland; formerly with Dr. Hartmann, Geneva, late 1980s to early 2000s.
