CHALCIDIAN BRONZE HELMET WITH DECORATED CHEEKS. Ca. 500 BC. A bronze Chalcidian helmet with a domed skull rising to a smooth crown. A raised V-shaped reinforcement projects above the forehead, and a narrow offset band encircles the head above the rim. The lower edge is scalloped at the brow with an integral nasal guard, cut-outs above the eyes, and drawn down at the nape to form a shallow neck-guard. Paired hinge tabs set on the lateral rim suspend the cheek-pieces, each with a rounded terminal and decorated with stepped mouldings and fine ribbing. Mounted on a modern stand. Size: 300mm x 225mm; Weight: 795g Provenance: Private London collection, acquired on the European art market pre 2000.
