Description

STUNNING CHALCIDIAN BRONZE HELMET. Ca. 500 BC. A bronze Chalcidian helmet with a domed crown and a prominent horizontal ridge encircling the lower section. The front has arched openings for the eyes, separated by a short, projecting nasal guard extending from the brow. Hinged, separately made cheek-pieces are attached behind the eye openings and end in a rounded edge. The helmet curves down at the back into a broad, flaring neck flange with a sharply defined rim. Size: 300mm x 2335mm; Weight: 865g Provenance: Private London collection, acquired on the European art market pre 2000. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
