GREEK PERIOD BRONZE SWORD WITH STONE POMMEL. Ca. 1200 - 900 BC. A bronze sword with a long, triangular blade and a shallow medial ridge running to an acute point. A narrow rectangular grip extends behind, incised with a chevron band, and terminates in a thick D-shaped stone pommel. For similar see: R. Matthews, H. F. Nashli, The Archaeology of Iran: from the Palaeolithic to the Achaemenid Empire, fig. 11.38. Size: 490mm x 70mm; Weight: 595g Provenance: Private London collection; previously in F. Piket collection, Netherlands, formed in the 1970s to the 1980s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
