VERY FINE LEFT CHEEKPIECE OF PHRYGIAN BRONZE HELMET. Ca. 350 - 300 BC. A hammered bronze left cheekpiece from a Phrygian-type helmet, worked in one piece and subtly embossed with shallow S-shaped ridges on the exterior. The outline follows the jawline with stepped cut-outs for the eye and cheek. A pair of such guards would have been hinged to either side of the helmet rim. For similar see: Christie's, Live Auction 2565, Antiquities, Lot 85. Size: 140mm x 75mm; Weight: 75g Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Munich, Germany in the 1990s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
