STUNNING GREEK BRONZE SITULA ATTACHMENT IN THE FORM OF A SILENUS HEAD. Ca. 400 - 300 BC. A bronze situla handle terminal cast as a bearded mask of Silenus, surmounted by two circular fixing holes. Wavy hair sweeps back from a low forehead and curls at the temples. Arched brows sit over slightly closed eyes and a straight nose. A thick moustache and layered beard frame a wide circular spout. For similar see: Christie's, 19876, Antiquities, Lot 9. Size: 75mm x 60mm; Weight: 170g Provenance: Private UK collection; acquired in Belgium; formerly with J. Micas collection, Paris, France formed since the 1970s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
