GREEK GOLD AMPHORA-SHAPED PENDANT. Ca. 300 BC. A gold pendant modelled as a miniature amphora, with a compressed ovoid body, volute handles, and a small foot. The lower half is gadrooned, and the neck flares to an everted lip edged with a beaded moulding. A flat lid surmounts the mouth with a ribbed tubular suspension loop. For similar see: F. H. Marshall, Catalogue of the Jewellery, Greek, Etruscan and Roman, in the Department of Antiquities, British Museum, 1912, Cat. 2332. Size: 22mm x 18mm; Weight: 4g Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Munich, Germany in the 1990s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
