APULIAN JUG WITH LADY OF FASHION.
Ca. 400 - 300 BC.
A red-figure pottery jug with an ovoid body set on a moulded ring foot, a short neck surmounted by a broad everted rim, and a ribbed strap handle rising from the shoulder to the rim. The neck is decorated with a frieze of alternating rosettes and circles spaced with dot clusters. On the main body, the frontal side shows a large profile bust of a Lady of Fashion with her coiffure arranged in a sakkos and jewellery highlighted in added white. The reverse bears a large palmette rising from the lower body, and concentric bands encircle the lower register.
