ROMANO-EGYPTIAN TERRACOTTA HEAD OF HARPOCRATES.
Ca. 30 BC - AD 100. A terracotta head of the Graeco-Egyptian god Harpocrates, depicted as a youth, wearing a sumptuous headpiece and with his finger to his mouth. The facial features of the statuette are rendered in a naturalistic manner. For similar see: The British Museum, number EA24372. Reviewed by Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition. Size: 19mm x 20.2mm; Weight: 7.67g Provenance: Private UK collection; previously acquired on the French art market in the 1990s.
