Description

ROMAN BLACK JASPER INTAGLIO DEPICTING JUPITER WITH RADIANT CROWN IN GOLD RING. Ca. AD 50 - 200. A black jasper intaglio engraved with the bearded head of Jupiter in left profile, wearing the radiate crown. The gem is set in a circular gold collet with an upright rim, mounted on a flat hoop with broad shoulders, forming a gold ring, possibly of a later date. For similar see: D.
