LATE ROMAN GOLD AND SILVER CICADA BROOCH. Ca. AD 350 - 450. A silver cicada brooch with openwork wings of scrolling interlace within elongated frames, each corner secured by a rivet. A domed head with lentoid eyes rises above a narrow gold collar of fine beaded wire. Below, a gold triangular plaque is decorated with filigree beading. The reverse is fitted with a hinge and catch.
