ROMAN CHALCEDONY INTAGLIO DEPICTING JANUS IN HIGH KARAT GOLD RING.
Ca. AD 50 - 200.
A chalcedony intaglio engraved with Janus, the twin bearded male heads shown back to back in profile, each with a filleted headband and abundant beard. Set in an oval high-karat, possibly later gold ring with a narrow raised rim, the broad shoulders transition into a thick hoop of D-shaped section.
