BYZANTINE SILVER SPOON INSCRIBED 'PURITAS'.
Ca. AD 550 - 650. A silver spoon with an elongated bowl and a slender, slightly tapering handle that terminates in a rounded hook. A decorative scroll element connects the bowl and handle. The upper section of the handle bears the inscription 'PURITAS'. For similar see: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Object Number: 2005.39. Size: 160mm x 30mm; Weight: 24.90g Provenance: Private London collection; Ex. Borowski collection, Switzerland, 1980s-1990s.
