LATE ROMAN SILVER CUP WITH CLIPEI. Ca. AD 400 - 500. A silver cup with a thick, pronounced rim, near-vertical upper wall, and rounded lower body. Below the rim run two braided bands between narrow notched borders. The lower register is decorated with four clipei enclosing profile busts, set among scrolling palmettes and leafy tendrils. For similar see: The British Museum, Museum number 124088. Size: 100mm x 70mm; Weight: 205g Provenance: Private UK collection; acquired on the London art market; formerly with R. Unger, Parthenon gallery, 1990s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
