ROMAN GOLD PENDANT WITH AGATE CAMEO DEPICTING ANTINOUS. Ca. AD 130 - 200. A gold-mounted agate cameo of Antinous. The oval gem is carved in low relief with a right-facing youthful head bound by a taenia and framed by tightly braided locks. A teardrop-shaped gold mount forms the body, the cameo secured within an oval collet with a round suspension ring above. The front is decorated with applied domed bosses and a beaded border, with a small drop terminal below. Size: 40mm x 26mm; Weight: 10g Provenance: Private UK collection; From an old British collection formed in the 1980s; This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
