ROMAN GOLD PENDANT WITH CENTRAL RED GARNET CABOCHON.
Ca. AD 1 - 200. A gold necklace comprising a loop-in-loop chain suspending a circular pendant centred by a domed garnet in a tall collet. The openwork field is formed as a cross ending in small globules, enclosed by a raised ring edged with braided filigree and surmounted by an integral ribbed suspension loop with an applied rosette. Size: 310mm x 20mm; Weight: 7.7g Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in France in the early 2000s; formerly in a Swiss private collection formed in the 1980s and 1990s.
