Description

SUPERB ROMAN BRONZE BUST OF MERCURY. Ca. AD 100 - 300. A bronze bust of Mercury depicted with youthful features. His short hair is in tight curls, and small wings project at the sides of the head. The oval face has recessed eyes, a straight nose, and small lips; the torso is bare with a mantle draped over the left shoulder. Set on a short, flaring pedestal base. For similar see: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Object Number: 06.1057. Size: 85mm x 60mm; Weight: 165g Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Germany; formerly with Mr. Toussaint collection, Holland 1980s-1990s. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
