ROMAN CARNELIAN INTAGLIO DEPICTING THE LEGIONARY EAGLE AND SNAKE IN GOLD RING.
Ca. AD 50 - 150.
A carnelian intaglio engraved with a legionary eagle standing right, head lowered and wings partly spread, confronting a rearing serpent entwined about a stem. A gold ring mounts the gem in a high oval collet, the broad shoulders worked with vertical flutes. The ring of a possibly later period.
