MATCHED PAIR OF ROMAN GOLD AND RED GARNETS EARRINGS WITH CUPID HEADS.
Ca. AD 200 - 400.
A matched pair of gold earrings, each with a circular hoop of twisted gold wire; one end drawn to a plain tapered point forming the tongue, the other terminating in a narrow gold collar that serves as the base for a red garnet head pendant. The head has a youthful face of Cupid with rounded cheeks and a small mouth, framed by dense spiral curls, and a short neck set into the collar. From the crown projects a gold wire loop through which the tapered end of the hoop passes to fasten.
