FRAGMENT OF A DRAPED STATUETTE
White marble
H. 38 cm
Roman art, 2nd century
Provenance
Former private collection in the South of France, acquired before 1983
Photographic records, December 1983

By inheritance
This fragment corresponds to the lower part of a draped female statuette; the head, arms and lower legs are missing. The figure is clad in a short chiton cinched at the waist, forming a gathered fold (kolpos) and falling in deep, dynamic folds; the leg is visible beneath the fabric. The short garment and the dynamic drapery are characteristic of the type known as Diana the Huntress (Artemis), derived from a Greek model. The surface shows significant earthy deposits and marked wear.
