Cameo on two-layered agate, the white layer set against a pinkish-brown background, depicting a bearded theatrical mask in full face: furrowed brow, eyes hollowed out with a trephine, hair and beard in lively strands. A grotesque figure drawn from the Dionysian repertoire of ancient theatre. The cameo was set in the 19th century in a gold ring with an oval bezel and shoulders chiselled with foliage motifs, enhanced with rose-cut diamonds.
