Description
PARIS, probably from the Nast workshop, c. 1810
Cylindrical cup and saucer in hard-paste porcelain with a polychrome trompe-l’œil decoration of playing cards scattered across a black background, the borders outlined with gold fillets. Painted mark ‘G.D.’ or ‘9.D.’ beneath the cup.
Note:
An almost identical design, featuring polychrome playing cards set against a black background, is documented on a cup and saucer from the Parisian Nast factory, circa 1810, sold at Christie’s. Similar designs were also produced in Derby and Vienna at the same time.
