Description
Henri EVENEPOEL (1872–1899) Lugano, San Lorenzo Cathedral, 1891. Watercolour on paper. 17.2 x 11.1 cm. Provenance: Collection of Sophie Fraikin-Devis (1838–1919), the artist’s aunt; then passed down through the Fraikin-Verhaeren-Bellière family to Jacques Bellière. De Vuyst auction, 13 December 2003. Note: This watercolour was painted during Henri Evenepoel’s trip to Switzerland and northern Italy in August 1891. Several works from this trip are known, notably views of Flüelen, Lugano and Como. This journey took place shortly before he settled in Paris in 1892.
