Exhibitions:
Brussels, Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, 18 March to 12 June 1994.
Sint-Niklaas, Sint-Niklaas Museum.
Documents relating to the loan of the work to the museums for these exhibitions are enclosed.
Provenance:
Collection of Sophie Fraikin-Devis (1838–1919), the artist’s aunt;
then passed down through the Fraikin-Verhaeren-Bellière family to Jacques Bellière.
Note:
Charles De Mey (1894–1964), known as ‘little Charles’, was the son of Henri Evenepoel and his cousin Louise Van Mattemburgh. Born in Paris in November 1894, he was one of the painter’s favourite models, whom he depicted on several occasions, notably in the famous *Charles in a Striped Jersey* of 1898. This drawing, dated 28 December 1898, thus depicts Charles aged four.
