Description
Eugène Ysaÿe (1858–1931)
An old sepia photograph depicting the famous Belgian violinist Eugène Ysaÿe, seated with his violin.
Print signed within the image by the Mishkin N.Y. studio. Autograph inscription signed in violet ink, accompanied by a short handwritten musical fragment: ‘To my dear colleague and friend P. Sechiari, with warm regards, E. Ysaÿe’
Handwritten note on the side: probably ‘Le Zoute, Sept. 4/22’, i.e. September 1922. The dedication is likely addressed to Pierre Sechiari, a violinist active in Paris and founder of the Sechiari Quartet.
Antique frame bearing on the reverse a label from the Parisian framer Henri Cornet, 37 rue de Constantinople, Paris.
Dimensions of the photograph: approximately 22.5 × 17.5 cm.
Condition: glass chipped/broken, matting yellowed and showing signs of age; photograph appears to be well preserved under the glass.
