Description
SÜE & MARE – LOUIS SÜE (1875–1968) & ANDRÉ MARE (1885–1932) – LA COMPAGNIE DES ARTS FRANÇAIS. Display sideboard from 1925, catalogue no. 416, model exhibited in the Fontaine Pavilion at the Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts, Paris, 1925. Sideboard in flamed mahogany veneer and mahogany. The curved front features two solid doors surmounted by two drawers. The side panels are reminiscent of double-scroll corbels with drapery motifs in high relief. The lower moulding is carved in the style of a corded band. The top is in Portor marble finished with a ‘bec de corbin’ edge. The drawer pulls, shaped like scallop shells, and the lock plates, designed to resemble drapery, are crafted in gilded bronze by Établissements Fontaine based on designs created by Süe & Mare. Circa 1925. Height: 96 cm – Length: 184 cm – Depth: 71 cm. Restored in 2025 by Atelier Noel in Brussels (restorer and cabinetmaker). Note: The piece can be viewed by appointment; it is currently in storage.
