Description
Jules VAN DE LEENE (1887–1962) ‘Temptation’, oil on canvas, signed lower right. Note on the reverse: Titled and signed, 1931, 90 x 79.5 cm Note: Trained at the Academies of Ixelles and Brussels under the guidance of Constant Montald, Van de Leene devoted himself entirely to painting from 1913 onwards. Initially a watercolourist, he began working in oils in 1923. His repeated stays in the Netherlands fostered a deep admiration for Hals and Vermeer, which is evident in his depiction of lived-in interiors. His works are held in museums in Brussels, Ixelles, Bruges and Kortrijk.
