Description
Robert CROMMELYNCK (1895–1968)
Tuscany, 1957 Oil on canvas. Signed ‘R. Crommelynck’, inscribed ‘Tuscany’ and dated ‘57’ in the lower right-hand corner. 70 x 100 cm.
Exhibition / Bibliography:
Robert Crommelynck 1895–1968, a retrospective organised in Liège at the Musée de l’Art wallon, Salle Saint-Georges, from 15 September to 29 October 1995; the work is listed and reproduced in the catalogue, p. 98.
Note:
A keen traveller, Robert Crommelynck drew much of his inspiration from the landscapes he encountered during his stays abroad. Painted in Tuscany in 1957, this large-format composition is representative of his mature style. Through a spacious and uncluttered composition, Crommelynck contrasts the cultivated fields in the foreground with the light-coloured hills that frame the horizon, in a palette dominated by ochres, yellows and greens.
