Description
Jun DOBASHI (1910–1975) Abstract composition, mixed media on paper, signed lower left, 30 x 41 cm Note: Having settled in Paris in 1953, Jun Dobashi was fully immersed in post-war abstraction and the New School of Paris. His pictorial language, based on texture, colour and a gestural style reminiscent of calligraphy, bears similarities to the lyrical abstraction of Gérard Schneider. Winner of the Prix du Dôme in 1956, he exhibited at the Galerie Charpentier and then, in 1961, at the Redfern Gallery in London, where his works were shown alongside those of Nicolas de Staël.
