Description
Paul DELVAUX (1897–1994) Phryné (1969), lithograph, signed and numbered 8/75, 30.5 × 23.5 cm Bibliography: Mira Jacob, Paul Delvaux, œuvre gravé, Éditions André Sauret, Monaco, 1976, no. 39. Note: Produced in November 1969, Phryné forms part of a series of lithographs in which Paul Delvaux transposes the emblematic themes of his painted world. Two nude female figures are depicted in an interior with classical architecture, within the silent and enigmatic atmosphere characteristic of the artist. The work was printed in an edition of 75. A second version in colour, also printed in an edition of 75, is listed under no. 40 in Mira Jacob’s catalogue raisonné.
