Estimate €3,000 - €5,000
Description
Neolithic-style Chinese jade ring bracelets With a domed shape and thick walls, these two bracelets are made of a stone heavily altered by calcification; it is cream-white in colour, criss-crossed with cracks and marked with patches of earthy patina. One of the two bracelets has a small trace of rust on the edge. 6.5 x 3.3 cm. This type of object may have formed part of a ritual set associated with dignitaries of prehistoric China. The Chinese Neolithic period, which spanned approximately from the 7th to the 2nd millennium BCE, is characterised by the development of agriculture, the settlement of populations, the production of pottery and the remarkable flourishing of jade culture. Jade objects, particularly ornaments and ritual items, played an important role in Neolithic societies and appear to have been associated with social status and ceremonial practices.
