Description
NEPAL, KATHMANDU VALLEY, 18th century or earlier. A votive stele in dark stone, carved in high relief, depicting a standing four-armed Vishnu on a lotus-shaped plinth, wearing a tall tiara and richly adorned, flanked by Garuda and Lakshmi, beneath a mandorla with a beaded and flamed border. Rough reverse side with a fixing tenon. Ancient damage, missing attribute on the upper right hand, wear, remains of fixing and traces of red ritual pigment. H. 21.5 cm; W. 13 cm Provenance: former Belgian private collection.
