Description
Liangzhu-style (Chinese Neolithic) circular jade bracelet featuring a dog motif Carved from a ring of jade, this object features five dragon heads carved in relief around its circumference. The surface is weathered and patinated, with whitish deposits. 9.5 cm. Originally, this type of jewellery would have been a ritual ornament worn by the elite of prehistoric China. The Liangzhu (良渚) culture, dating from around 5300 to 4300 years before the present, is one of China’s major Neolithic cultures, particularly notable for the significance of its jade tradition. Several jade bracelets adorned with dragon heads have been unearthed at sites associated with this culture and are generally regarded as ritual objects associated with the elite.
