A ceramist active in the first half of the 20th century, Jean Lachaud was part of the revival of the French decorative arts between the two world wars. Drawing on Art Deco aesthetics, he developed a decorative style based on the stylisation of forms and the clarity of his compositions.
He collaborated with the HB-Henriot factory in Quimper, for which he designed earthenware and stoneware models intended for decorative production. His work forms part of the factory’s repertoire, alongside that of artists committed to modernising the Quimper ceramic tradition.
His creations are characterised by an understated and structured style, reflecting the influence of modernist movements whilst remaining suited to artisanal mass production.
