Jean Pons was a 20th-century French painter, printmaker, sculptor and illustrator. Trained at the École Estienne, in 1938 he founded a lithography studio frequented by numerous contemporary artists from the École de Paris, including Delaunay, Kandinsky and Zadkine. Initially an Expressionist and Fauvist, his art evolved from 1948 onwards towards abstraction, incorporating collages and mixed media.
Jean Pons produced several illustrated books, working with Aimé Césaire and Charles Estienne, amongst others. The artist exhibited his work at numerous art fairs in France, as well as abroad. Similarly, many exhibitions have been dedicated to him in galleries and museums, such as at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris in 1984.
